Fair Die Roller

While a real die roll is random, a less random die roll can also be useful. Imagine putting all the numbers on the die into a hat a drawing the numbers one at a time. The order is still random, but you are sure to draw all the numbers an equal number of times. This page reduces the randomness of the die roll by adjusting the probability of getting each result based on the number of times that result has already come up. More details.

Choose Dice
Tightness

The amount that the probability is adjusted depends on the "tightness" setting. A tightness of 0 makes the rolls purely random. A tightness of infinity is like putting all the numbers into a hat and drawing them out. If the tightness is 1, the odds of rolling a number a second time are reduced by about 50%, while a tightness of 2 reduces the odds by 75%. Pick a tightness, roll the die a few times and watch the probability chart to get a feel for how a particular tightness will work.
